CZECH REPUBLIC - Amendment Requires Non-EU Work Permit Holders to Register with Labour Office

January 11, 2012 - An amendment to Paragraph 87 of the new labour code now requires non-EU work permit holders to register with the labour office before beginning any in-country remunerated activities.  Though citizens exempt from work permits (EU nationals) have historically been the only group required to register with the labour office, Act 435/2004 has been expanded to include all work permit holders.

This amendment, passed as part of a “Social Reform” package, included other changes from the Czech Parliament.  Most noticeable are that managerial employees’ probationary periods have been increased from three to six months; fixed-term employment maximums have been increased from two to three years; and employees on sick leave may be dismissed if they do not follow directions given by their doctor.
